The St. Cecilia Consort presents Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater – A Lenten Musical Reflection

Composed in 1736, the Stabat Mater is ones of Pergolesi’s most celebrated Sacred pieces.  The 45-minute work, divided into 12 parts, is a musical setting of the Stabat Mater Dolorosa, a 13th Century hymn attributed to the Franciscan Jacopone da Todi. The Latin poem depicts the suffering of the Blessed Virgin Mary as she stood by the Cross of Christ Jesus.

The St. Cecilia Consort is offering 5 performances of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at churches throughout the Diocese of Bridgeport:
